The Multi Functional Rural Fuel Platform

What is a Multi Functional Rural Fuel Platform (MFRFP)

The Multi Functional Rural Fuel Platform is in effect a micro municipality that comes in a box as it provides the services typically provided by a municipality such as clean water and electricity.

Version 1

More Details on the Multi Functional Rural Fuel Platform's sub systems:

The MFRFP comprises a number of components:

  • Vegetable oil seed processor
  • Diesel engine
  • Electric generator
  • Water pump
  • Water purifier
  • Hot Water
  • Tool and Flour Grinder
  • Rural Fuel Processor

Vegetable oil seed extruder: The extruder crushes vegetable oil seeds like Soy in the summer or Canola in the winter and the resulting vegetable oil is then used as fuel for the diesel engine. The protein meal cake left over from the extrusion process can be used to extend the local population’s diet, increasing the protein levels in their food, plus this meal cake can be used as supplemental animal feed during the cold winter months.

Diesel engine: The diesel engine is fueled by vegetable oil produced by the extruder and is used to power the oil seed extruder, the electric generator, the water purifier, the water pump, plus provide a small amount heat for home and/or water heating.

Electric generator: The electric generator enables a local village community to provide power for a small scale village electrification system. Lighting derived from the MFRFP's generator can help dramatically improve the education of the children in remote rural villages as they can complete home work in the evenings.

Water pump: The water pumping water from their wells, eliminating the back breaking effort required to carry water by hand.

Water purifier: The water purifier will clean the pumped water with the integrated water purifier system, reducing village disease levels caused by contaminated water supplies.

Hot Water: We think of the hot water created by our MFRFP's engine as a tremendous resource rather than a waste product, especially in colder climates. The hot water can be used for personal hygiene or cleaning pots and pans, etc.

Tool and Flour Grinder: The stone grinder provides an excellent tool sharpener for scythes and all the other tools used on the village farms. The flour grinder saves the endless hours required for food preparation.

Rural Fuel Processor: The Rural Fuel Processor converts the vegetable oil produced from the extrusion process and turns it into rural fuel so that the fuel can be sold as a locally produced diesel fuel replacement, generating a hard cash revenue stream for the local population.

Is the MFRFP a new concept?

The Multi Functional Platform (MFP) is a well known poverty alleviation technology that has been used all over the world. One of the best known applications of MFP technology in poverty alleviation are the 450 MFP's currently in service in countries like Ghana and Mali. (An example of an MFP is shown in the picture below care of the Mali project at this URL: http://www.ptfm.net)

The Multi Functional Platform

How is the MFRFP different from existing Multi Functional Platforms?

We have extended the existing Multi Functional Platform (MFP) by adding a rural fuel production capability. The rural fuel production capability transforms a Multi Functional Platform into a Multi Functional Rural Fuel Platform. (MFRFP)
